Admission Requirements
Applicants must be licensed registered nurses or plan to pass the NCLEX during their first semester. There are no prerequisite courses required before starting the program, allowing students to begin their studies immediately. General education courses can be taken concurrently with nursing core courses.
Curriculum
The curriculum includes 30 core nursing credits, 33 proficiency credits from prior nursing education, and 57 general education credits.

Covers physical assessment and interview skills for evaluating client health across the lifespan. Examines communication, health literacy, patient-centered care, and interprofessionalism in health and risk assessments. Includes both lecture and lab components.
Explores foundational concepts of professional nursing, including definitions, paradigms, values, ethics, and continuity of care for restorative and chronic conditions.
Focuses on research utilization and critique, highlighting the relationship between research, scholarship, and evidence-based practice. Covers statistical methods, data analysis, and hypothesis testing.
Introduces data, information, and knowledge management in nursing. Explores patient care technologies, communication methods, interprofessional collaboration, and computer applications.
Examines the nature of caring in nursing and its role in addressing acute, chronic, and palliative needs, as well as self-care and wellness.
Discusses public and community health nursing, focusing on social determinants, health disparities, wellness, ethics, leadership, and interprofessional collaboration.
Covers health promotion and disease prevention concepts for individuals, families, and populations. Emphasizes evidence-based research and stakeholder engagement.
Explores nursing leadership and management principles. Applies professionalism and nursing processes to client, group, and system support.
Analyzes healthcare systems and individual nursing performance to improve patient outcomes, quality, and safety within healthcare environments.
Explores social, economic, and policy challenges in nursing, with a focus on strategies for advancing professional nursing practices.

Tuition
The program is affordable at $330 per credit hour, with a total cost of $9,990. In-state and out-of-state students pay the same tuition. Additional fees include a $20 per credit hour technology fee. UIC offers transcript evaluations at no cost to ensure students receive credit for prior coursework.
